Today, I wished i'd learned violin. Was at the foyer doing homework after class(some kind of miracle which i hope will happen everyday) when i heard the 'mini orchestra'. Got so curious and started to track where the lovely music came from.
What appeared in front of my eyes, was a group of students, about 10 or maybe more, with violin and cello and music sheets in front of them. (Not sure if there's viola, cos i cannot differentiate between violin and viola shame on me who did music theory for the past 10 or 12 years).
I stood there alone, like a weirdo, enjoy listening to them practising. Sometimes i thought violin is boring because you only play one line, one rhythm while you can have two lines on the piano, one rhythm and one to accompany the rhythm so it sounds deadly nice. Sometimes i think cello is VERY dull, it's so huge i thought it's hard to carry around, and the notes soooooo low-pitch that it sounds like..i don't know..an old man? Or some music from a horror movie?
But. There's always a but. Today i was amazed by how the two instruments can combine and produce such amazing, such lovely music. Yea we've heard a lot of these actually in our lives, in radio, in shopping malls, in some formal dinner, during prize giving ceremony etc. But i've never seen it, or even if i did, i never paid any attention on how it can really work.
The students' serious expression when practising shows how enthusiastic they are when it comes to music. I wonder why i've never try performing for others, or group up with others playing different instruments to 'produce' such lovely music too like they do, like the brassbands do? Yea i know i kinda suck in playing the piano but, i don't think all the students i saw have a Grade 8 distinction in violin right? And now it comes back to the same question. Why did i failed my Grade 8? I was always thinking, short fingers is the reason, or the excuse?
Now it reminds me of the past, when i was in such 'musical' atmosphere at least once or twice a week in the piano school. Walking pass the rooms i could hear the violin, piano, cello, whatever instrument you name it. I totally took it for granted, it was a routine. Now that i realised, it was a blessing too. And i kind of miss it.
Thanks papa mama, for the piano lessons that i've screwed up a lot.
